41-45 St Giles Street
A group of us booked here for a traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist and shown to the waiting area. OK it was December but it was very cold in the waiting area, but thankfully we were not there for too long. While waiting I decided to go to the bar – this was not a very pleasant experience. The staff didn’t really seem to know what they were doing, having trouble opening a bottle of wine! Then, upon asking for a pint of premium lager, I was told that I would need to wait as all the pint glasses were in use! Come on, this was 7 o’clock in the evening – I did offer to go and collect some for them! BTW – the bar experience didn’t improve much as the evening went on. Anyway, to the food. This was the saving grace for the St Giles House. It was of a very good standard considering it was a staff Christmas meal. Everybody got what they ordered (eventually) and there were no complaints amongst the group. One thing we did find was that because of the high ceilings and the number of people, there was so much noise it was difficult to have a conversation. Would I go again, yes probably as the food was very good, but not for a Christmas meal.
