Five of us arrived at Take Five at six. It was already getting busy on this Saturday evening but we managed to get a table. The restaurant was lovely and cosy with a real open fire burning and the arrangement of tables meant that you were not squashed in. A good choice on the menu with an even mix of vegetarian and meat dishes and certainly something for everyone. I chose the Sausages and Mash with a red wine and onion gravy served with peas and carrots cooked to perfection – absolutely delicious. Although my partner is not vegetarian he chose the rice and vegetable stir fry with cashews and peanuts, which smelt divine and tasted gorgeous. Another friend chose bean curry which he said was very tasty which was served with rice, salad and coleslaw. Our friend that wasn’t eating much(?) had the home made pate with about eight slices of toasted french bread and salad! A good choice of home made desserts, carrot cake, blackberry and apple crumble and raspberry frangipan to name but a few, which were all delicious too. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and even remembered the last bar order you had! They had a good selection of spirits, real ales and cider on hand pumps, a range of continental lagers including a wheat beer and also a fantastic choice of flavoured teas. Very good value for money and I would definitely recommend. Probably best to book a table on a busy night as a lot of people turned away when they couldn’t find a table. Selection of Filled Jacket Potatoes and Baguettes available at lunchtime also. No outside seating. Great location opposite the cathedral.
